Guess What…You Get to Choose!

Moving towards 2024 - your way.

How did we get here so fast?

Seriously, tomorrow is Halloween?! How is that even possible?

It feels like it was just yesterday that I completed my 2023 Inspiration + Aspiration Plan. I take myself through my own proprietary imagination and planning exercise every year in November/December; it is my process for looking forward to the coming year with a sense of intention and commitment, grounded in hope and being open to what’s possible.

I’m sure you can feel it too, the energy that always comes in the last quarter of the year, a commercially driven race to the holidays and new year.

It can be a time of intensity,

excitement,

dread,

hope,

and fear.

Pretty much ALL the feelings.

There is something about the fall and impending winter that immediately sends us into “crazy family and holiday”,  “finish the year strong” and “new year, new you” energy.

It can be a lot.

However, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Instead, perhaps you intentionally choose how you want to move through the remainder of this year.

Perhaps you choose how you want to feel,

and what will allow you to feel that way.

Yes, you actually get to choose what you want to do, with who, and when.

If you’re anything like me, this is always the perfect time to reflect on how the year has been, how you are feeling and what the priorities for your attention and focus will be for the remainder of the year.

Because I begin every year with clear intentions, optimism and openness, by the time I reach this time of the year, things have unfolded in the most magical, and sometimes surprising, of ways.

Sometimes things have gone better than expected,

and sometimes they haven’t.

Sometimes things have unfolded exactly as planned,

and yet more often than not, they are not at all how I thought they would be.

Regardless, I am always blown away by the difference a year makes.

Let me suggest that today, right now, is an amazing time to celebrate all off the goodness that you have experienced,

to be present with whatever has not gone as expected,

and to reimagine what might be possible for the next few months.

Let’s also not ignore that this has been an incredibly painful time,

we are witnessing unimaginable suffering,

and turbulence all around us.

It is important to acknowledge and honor how you are feeling, and to be gentle with yourself.

Please remember that you don’t have to do things  the same way as you always have.

You are allowed to shake up how you spend the holidays,

let go of how it’s always been,

and create new rituals and celebrations. (Maybe next time I will tell you about how my family decided to move Thanksgiving to Friday, permanently.)

You can decide just how much stimulation and activity you want during this time;

you can explore new ways of spending your time, energy and attention.

You can choose to go inward,

and find more quiet and stillness.

There is no rule book, there is no right or wrong.

There is only the truth of what you want right now,

and the permission to give yourself whatever you need in this moment.

Be honest my beautiful friend,

you deserve to design your life exactly as you wish.

I’m thinking about offering an online opportunity to create your own 2024 Inspiration + Aspiration Plan, let me know if you would be interested in joining me.
